Chief Scientific Adviser at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology

Professor Chris Johnson is Chief Scientific Adviser at the Department for Science,
Innovation and Technology (DSIT), appointed in July 2024. He previously held senior
roles at Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Glasgow. His research
focuses on cyber security in safety-critical systems, contributing to national
strategies in aviation, nuclear, and defence. He advised the Grenfell Tower Inquiry
and supports ethical AI integration in military systems. Chris has held fellowships
with NASA and the US military and serves on the National Cyber Advisory Board,
helping shape the UK Cyber Strategy.
